Procter & Gamble Add Product Packaging, Recycling Goals
Procter & Gamble Co. (P&G) has expanded its sustainability goals with an emphasis in part on product packaging and recycling.
The Cincinnati-based consumer products maker is aiming to reduce packaging by 20 percent per unit of production by 2020, according to a news release. P&G is committing to doubling the use of recycled resin in plastic packaging. It also wants to ensure that 90 percent of its product packaging is recyclable, or that programs are in place to create the ability to recycle the material.
In addition, P&G is working across its supply chain to develop the capability by 2020 to replace top petroleum-derived raw materials with renewable materials, as cost and scale allow.
The company’s other area of emphasis with its new sustainability goals is water conservation.
P&G previously has established 12 Environmental Sustainability Goals, which include 100-percent renewable or recycled materials for all products and packaging, and zero consumer and manufacturing waste going to landfills. The company now has 70 zero waste manufacturing sites.
