Rumpke Opens Solid Waste Transfer Facility in Central Kentucky

GEORGETOWN, Kentucky  – Rumpke Waste & Recycling opened a $5.5 million solid waste transfer facility in Georgetown, Kentucky during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 3.

The 21,606 square foot site will be used to transport residential and commercial waste collected in Scott County and surrounding areas to Rumpke’s landfills in Pendleton and Montgomery Counties.  

“We’re proud to bring this facility to Scott County to provide alternative, long-term disposal options for area residents and businesses,” said Adam Rumpke, Region Vice President. “Our family owned company is dedicated to ensuring environmental compliance, safety and open lines of communication. We will make the same commitment to Scott County.”

The transfer facility features a modern design. Trash collected from area homes and businesses will be dumped inside the building and loaded into transfer trailers the same day. The facility includes a maintenance garage and office space to house sales and administrative employees. Rumpke will also maintain community recycling drop boxes at the site.

In addition to materials collected by Rumpke’s hauling operations, the facility will be available to third-party waste haulers, municipal crews and institutions performing their own collection. The site will also be open to residents and individuals who wish to self-haul material.

“We believe the facility will be an asset to the Central Kentucky community, helping to expand waste and recycling capabilities for many,” said Rumpke. “We’re excited this project has finally come to fruition and we’re proud to officially establish a home in Scott County.”

Approximately 25 employees will work at the site, ranging from drivers, mechanics and laborers to sales and administrative personnel. 

Rumpke currently operates 16 facilities in Kentucky, including five transfer stations, three landfills, two recycling centers, six truck depots and one convenience center.
