As a part of its new Affinity Program, The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) announced its participation with AmazonSmile, a website operated by Amazon.com that donates a percentage of supporters’ Amazon purchases to an eligible 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Through SWANA’s unique AmazonSmile link, supporters can automatically donate 0.5 percent of all qualifying purchases to SWANA. By using SWANA’s link, the process of sifting through the 1 million AmazonSmile charities is bypassed, and once SWANA is added as the charitable donation of choice, AmazonSmile will remember the selection and every eligible purchase made will result in a donation.

“We are very pleased to add Amazon to SWANA’s growing suite of Affinity partners; Amazon provides a high quality service to its customers, much like the waste industry, and we are proud to offer this to our members and others,” David Biderman, SWANA’s executive director and CEO, said in a statement. “I suspect the Biderman household will be a significant contributor to this important new SWANA program.”

SWANA’s addition of Amazon to its new preferred provider lineup allows members to take advantage of vendors who have been vetted by SWANA’s Affinity Program Committee and earn the distinction of officially being “SWANA approved.” By using the vendors in this program, SWANA members may benefit from group-wide cost reductions and pre-negotiated discounts.

SWANA’s Affinity Program, officially announced in August at SWANA’s WASTECON conference in Indianapolis, is quickly adding new vendors to its program. Along with AmazonSmile, Card Payment Services (CPS) and Concorde Inc. are within SWANA’s preferred vendor lineup, and other companies have requested to be added to the program.

“Through our Affinity Program, we are expanding the value proposition for SWANA membership, by bringing proven, experienced vendors to our members,” added Biderman. “As the program grows, we expect it to generate non-dues revenue, which will be used to expand and improve existing SWANA programs and services.”
