Waste Management Inc. said it will use DriveCam Inc.’s risk and fleet management solution equipment throughout its fleet.

The Houston-based Waste Management said in a news release that it signed a five-year contract with the San Diego-based DriveCam after a six-month pilot of the system in two of its market areas.

“Based on the results from the pilots, DriveCam can deliver clear benefit to our shareholders,” said David Steiner, Waste Management president and CEO. He said the company will begin working with DriveCam to implement the system.

The move will help push the company’s core value of safety, added Jim Trevathan, chief operating officer of Waste Management.

The DriveCam system addresses worker safety by combining data and video analytics with real-time driver feedback and coaching, resulting in reductions in cost and fuel consumption. DriveCam achieves this with its Driver Science Engine.
