Wisconsin State Budget Plan Cuts Money for Recycling

Local leaders are using Earth Day to express concerns over proposed cuts to the state's recycling program.

It is part of (Wisconsin) Gov. Scott Walker's two-year budget plan. He is calling for a $4 million cut to recycling grants available to local governments. The state's recycling management fund was already cut by 40 percent back in 2011.

In Outagamie County, leaders say that means a steep reduction in money they use pickup and process recycled material. With limited options, they say fees will almost certainly rise and programs could be cut.
