Apple Valley Waste Unveils New Single-Stream Recycling Center in Maryland
Apple Valley Waste unveiled its single-stream sorting facility in Hagerstown, Md., last week. The facility has been operating since September, but made a push to publicize the recycling center in order to continue to promote awareness and increase the amount of material flowing into the facility.
It hosted public officials and a ribbon-cutting ceremony and led tours through the facility.
"Our goal is to do everything we can with the material before it ends up in a landfill," Decker said, "and only landfill what's absolutely necessary."
Probably the biggest advantage to this new facility is that it processes single stream recycling, eliminating the need for customers to separate by materials. Whether it's paper, cardboard, plastic, glass or metal cans, they can all be placed in the same container. Customers can also utilize it via curbside recycling, allowing them to easily transfer their waste without driving it to a separate location.
It's the first singe-stream sorting facility in Washington County, Md., according to HeraldMailMedia.com.
