The Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Authority is constructing a mixed waste material recovery facility (MRF) in Perham, Minn.

The new 40-ton per hour facility will be part of the Perham Minnesota Resource Recovery Facility (PRRF) and process mixed waste for recovery of ferrous and nonferrous metals, fiber, non-combustible materials, glass and fines. The remaining waste will be converted to energy at the PRRF. Melville, N.Y.-based RRT Design & Construction (RRT) has been contracted by the authority to build the plant, RRT said in a news release.

When the project is completed the facility’s waste processing capacity will increase to 220 tons per day from 116 tons per day.

The new MRF is part of the authority’s overall plan to expand the facility to increase throughput, recover recyclable materials and improve the complex’s efficiency and energy output.
