Episode 32: There's No Sleep When It Comes to Mattress Recycling
The average mattress has a lifespan of between seven and ten years. It's estimated that more than 20 million mattresses end up in landfills each and every year.
There are three states that currently have mattress recycling laws: Connecticut, Rhode Island and California.
The Mattress Recycling Council was formed in 2015 in response to these three laws. The nonprofit works to divert mattresses from landfills and ensure they have a more useful life.
In this week's Stef Talks Trash, Mike O'Donnell, managing director, Mattress Recycling Council, and Editorial Director Stefanie Valentic discuss the process of mattress recycling and the legislation behind it.
