Hampshire, UK residents are petitioning against a new car recycling center due to fears of environmental and ecological impact, draining issues, and more.

Silverlake Automotive Recycling has applied to the Hampshire County Council to expand its site. According to Silverlake, the company processed more than 30,000 end-of-life cars in 2023. The company’s site is at capacity and is looking to expand so it can process 40,000 vehicles annually.

Residents have created a petition on Change.org to stop the potential expansion. The community is trying to protect the visual image of the village as well as avoid increased noise and light pollution and possible environmental impacts.

The petition currently has 300 signatures.
