In California, hundreds of recycling centers have shut down due to a financial crunch. Humboldt County, Calif., is the latest area to be hit with closures. The county has experienced five recycling center closures within the past 18 months, which include General Recycling in Eureka, Redwood Acres Recycling in Eureka, Sherricks in Eureka, Arcata Resource Recovery Center and a small neighborhood facility in Fortuna.

In addition to the recycling center closures, the state is also battling a low recycling level.

The Times-Standard has more information:

Lawmakers and recycling industry stakeholders are scheduled to meet to discuss the troubled system next week in Sacramento.
