According to the Waste Electrical and Electrical Equipment’s (WEEE) annual report released today, the Irish public recycled a record-breaking total of e-waste in 2023.

The report shows that, after the year, the Irish public has recycled 41,730 tonnes of e-waste, equivalent to 200 forty-foot containers more than 2022. The study approximates that 18.1 million appliances were collected in Ireland for recycling last year.

Among the recycled materials were 750,000 vapes and e-cigarettes as 2023 was the first year for the national recycling scheme of the problematic devices.

“Most householders have a hidden treasure trove of broken, unused, or unwanted electrical equipment in their homes,” said Leo Donovan, WEEE Ireland CEO.

“They alone hold the key to recycling them, giving them a new lease of life so we can recover the critical raw materials they contain.”
