KAB, Alcoa Partner with Fairs on Recycling
Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and Alcoa Foundation has partnered with three state and county fairs to increase recycling, composting and waste reduction at the events.
The Indiana State Fair, the Arlington County Fair in Virginia and the Kitsap County Fair and Stampede in Washington will get strategic placement of recycling bins at their sites, according to a news release. The three August fairs are receiving grant funding from the New York-based Alcoa Foundation for additional bins, technical and communications tools, support and training, and determining cost-effective practices.
The Stamford, Conn.-based KAB is managing the initiatives, and also partnering with locall groups at each fair to provide an accompanying educational booth, aimed to raise awareness about the environmental and economic impact of recycling.
“Events of this size and nature can generate enormous amounts of waste,” said Kelley Dennings, KAB senior director of recycling. “This enhanced focus on recycling will ensure a significant decrease in that waste. We also anticipate that the awareness generated will ensure long-term recycling habits in the hundreds of thousands of people who attend.”
