Lexington Sustainability Environment has partnered with P3 Cares on a pickle ball recycling program.

Pickleball balls have a relatively short life cycle and once cracked beyond use, can’t be recycled using normal means. P3 Cares, a group that specializes in recycling pickleballs, will be adding our white bins to collect pickleball at courts in Kirklevington, Ky.

“We started this in April. This is a partnership between Sustainability, Parks and Recreation, and the Kentucky Pickleball Association,” she said. “Part of the reason we chose this location is they often host tournaments here. There’s a larger volume of players.”

Once the pickleballs are collected, they will be shipped P3 to be recycled.

“We have mailed off one shipment so far, which is about 145 balls,” Balding said. “That’s nine pounds of plastic that we kept out of the landfill.”
