Long Island Recycling Company to Pay $550,000 for Air Pollution Violation

Gershow Recycling Corporation in Long Island, N.Y. will pay $550,000 in civil penalty for an alleged violation of the clean air act at its metal shredding facility.

Gershow Recycling Corporation in Long Island, N.Y. will pay $550,000 in civil penalty for an alleged violation of the clean air act at its metal shredding facility.

The recycling company reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice and the EPA. The company is also required to install pollution control technology to limit its output of harmful emissions, according to officials.

“This settlement requires Gershow to implement critical emission control technology that will help improve air quality for local communities, including those with the most vulnerable residents,” said U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace.
