Miami-Dade County Introduces Fees for Unresolved Contamination in Resident’s Recycling Bins

Residents in Miami-Dade County will be under stricter rules for recycling as the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management looks to combat contamination.

According to the Department, enforcers will be deployed to check the contents of blue bins at resident’s homes. This move was triggered by an ordinance passed last year by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners attempting to reduce contamination in recycling bins.

Previously, officials would leave a yellow tag on carts with contamination, notifying residents that they were putting the wrong items in recycling bins. Now, residents will have three chances to clean up tagged bins or face a $152 fee.
