Norfolk State University (NSU) in Virginia has made a move to create a more sustainable campus by installing Bigbelly’s solar-powered trash and recycling bins.

The campus now features 20 of Bigbelly's innovative waste collectors, including solar-powered waste compactors, a battery compactor, and recycling bins. Bins can be found around the campus’ main lawn, common areas, student centers, and more.

NSU is doing its part to remind students of items that can be recycled, so as not to interfere with the smart waste bins. Students are encouraged to recycle items like cardboard, newspapers, magazines, office paper, water bottles, and more.

In the northern area of Virginia, Bigbelly’s smart compost bins have collected over 1,000 pounds of food waste in Arlington since being installed.
