Boy Scouts in Omaha, Neb. are gathering old, broken and tangled Christmas lights to be recycled.

"We've been doing this recycling drive for, I think, three years now," said Eagle Scout in Troop 231, Nadia Stenbakkers.

The Scouts, based in Bellevue, are taking the old and broken Christmas lights to recycling centers, where they earn funds from the wire. The funds from the recycling program help to fund a trip to Yellowstone as well as acquire necessary equipment.

"We collect all the recycling, all the lights for recycling, and we take it over to Scrap Central and in Omaha," said David Coonce, committee member for Troop 231.

According to Coonce, Troop 231 has already gathered 5,000 pounds of lights, surpassing last year’s effort.
