PepsiCo Recycling Announces Awards for 19 Colleges and Universities

PepsiCo Recycling has announced 19 colleges and universities that will be awarded with up to $10,000 to help accomplish their environmental goals. These institutions were chosen among more than 60 proposals that PepsiCo Recycling received.

The funding for these environmental projects will be drawn from the Zero Impact Fund, which assists several campuses every year.

“The Zero Impact Fund presents a unique opportunity for students to identify and improve a sustainability challenge facing their campus community. As part of PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose agenda, PepsiCo Recycling is proud to support innovative, solution-oriented proposals aimed at making environmental, economic and social impacts for the second straight year,” said Tom Mooradian, manager, sustainability at PepsiCo, in a statement. “We were blown away by the level of commitment to sustainability in the more than 60 eligible applications we received. We look forward to seeing the projects come to life.”

Virginia Wesleyan University, one of this year’s awardees, will create sustainable phone-charging stations around campus that will rely on solar- and human-generated power.

Centre College, a repeat awardee, will use its funds to complete its first solar photovoltaic project, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with electricity production in its region.
