Purdue Fort Wayne, Ind. has received two grants to fund recycling research targeting plastics and batteries.

Purdue Fort Wayne, Ind. has received two grants to fund recycling research targeting plastics and batteries.

The first grant will fund a two-year, $100,000 project that will create a machine designed to sort different plastic bottles that will be converted into chemicals or other materials and will lower production costs.

The second grant, over $400,000, will work on sorting batteries. This three-year project, submitted by UHV Technologies and Penn State, will look to increase consumer participation in battery recycling. Programs will be created at state and local levels to collect batteries from households.
