Roots Recycling Reduces Waste One Ton at a Time

Pueblo, Colo.-based Roots Recycling focuses on reducing waste one ton at a time. Roots is a smaller player in the waste and recycling industry, and it tries to keep everything it produces and sorts both American and local.

Roots has a 25,000-square-foot transfer station, and it’s the city’s only membership-driven recycling center.

The Pueblo Chieftain has the details:

Justin Parker stood near one of the story-tall garage doors, casting a glance across the cavernous, 25,000-square-foot transfer station.

To his left, a mountain of compressed bales of paper, plastic, cardboard and mixed materials stood ready for pickup. To the right, a container about half the size of a rail car was filled to the edge with glass, and a pair of old hospital exam tables waited to be deconstructed and stripped of their reusable materials.
