SEIA Launches National Solar Photovoltaic Recycling Program
SEIA has teamed with solar manufacturers and installer-developers to create a network of cost-effective recyclers.
Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has launched a national solar photovoltaic (PV) recycling program in an effort to make solar energy even more sustainable.
For the new program, SEIA has teamed with solar manufacturers and installer-developers to create a network of cost-effective recyclers that can properly manage solar PV waste and panel disposal.
In addition to the new program, SEIA is investing in research and development on recycling technologies to try and figure out how to repurpose the components of solar panels into new products.
PVSolarReport has more:
These days, most of us are good about recycling. Some cities now require it. We recycle paper, bottles, cans, and even electronics.
But most people don’t think about recycling solar panels. PV panels last a long time, so this hasn’t been a major issue yet.
Still, solar panels will eventually wear out. And given that an important benefit of clean solar power is its sustainability, it would be counterproductive for solar panels to create waste or pollution.
