Thanks to a grant from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District, the Byrnes Mill recycling center will be able to remain in operation.
City Clerk Melinda Benedict and Bob Schmidt, Public Works Supervisor, initially asked the Solid Waste Management District for $91,638 in grant funding. The Solid Waste Management District gave them $54,982, which will be used to offset the riding hauling and operation costs and Byrnes Mill.
“Thanks to continued support from St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management, we are able to provide this service to not only Byrnes Mill residents, but all of the surrounding area, ” Benedict said. “On average, we have 1,450 people visit our recycling center each month, diverting as much as 20 tons of waste from landfills per month.”
