Surprise, Ariz., Suspends Curbside Recycling

Officials are blaming high costs for suspending the city’s recycling program.

Surprise, Ariz., is the latest city in the state to suspend its curbside recycling program, while the city of Phoenix is investing roughly $5 million in new technology at its north Phoenix recycling center.

FOX 10 reports that city officials in Surprise are blaming high costs for suspending its recycling program. Additionally, various cities across the state have stopped their recycling programs for the same reason.

The city of Surprise is the latest Arizona city to suspend its curbside recycling program due to high costs. But the city of Phoenix is trying a high-tech approach to their recycling program.

The city of Phoenix says they're investing about $5 million dollars in new technology at their north Phoenix recycling center that will, in turn, make recycling more cost-effective. This comes at the same time Surprise suspended their program.
