Syracuse, N.Y. Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced it will no longer offer blue recycling bins to residents, instead distributing 96-gallon covered carts.

New blue recycling bins are being discontinued throughout Onondaga County and will be replaced by the new covered carts. The new recycling carts will join the trash carts, introduced in the area last year, that have helped improve service to residents, create safer conditions for workers, and reduce litter.

The new carts will begin delivery to residents on October 7. Residents are encouraged to use a box or repurpose other containers for recycling collections until the new carts are delivered.
