Two New Zealand Companies Contracted to Manage Mountain of Expired COVID-19 Supplies

To deal with the overwhelming amount of expired COVID-19 supplies piling up in the country, two New Zealand companies have been contracted to help with proper disposal.

To deal with the overwhelming amount of expired COVID-19 supplies piling up in the country, two New Zealand companies have been contracted to help with proper disposal.

Health New Zealand and Enviro New Zealand will be working to dispose of roughly 51 million materials, including masks, gowns, gloves, and more. According to Dr Nick Chamberlain, Director of the National Public Health Service, about 65 percent of the materials will be turned into fuel, repurposed into wood chips for gardens or playgrounds, or recycled as slip sheets.

"We're talking about 8000 pallets, 51 million individual items, significant surplus stock,” said Chamberlain. "Every jurisdiction in the world is encountering this and looking at solutions for disposal of its excess and expired supply."
