Ørsted Named Proud Sustainability Partner of Boston Red Sox
Ørsted will support the Red Sox's sustainability initiatives at Fenway Park.
Denmark-based Ørsted has been named the Proud Sustainability Partner of the Boston Red Sox. Through this partnership, Ørsted will support the professional baseball team’s initiatives at its home ballpark, Fenway Park.
Ørsted owns and operates 23 offshore wind farms in Europe. The company's Bay State Wind project, a 50/50 partnership with Eversource, is competing in a bid to develop Massachusetts' first offshore wind farm 25 miles off the state's South Coast.
"We are thrilled with the opportunity to support the Red Sox's sustainability initiatives," said Thomas Brostrøm, president for Ørsted North America, in a statement. "We see this strategic partnership as part of our continued commitment to bringing green energy to Massachusetts."
Over the years, the Red Sox have made substantial sustainability improvements to Fenway Park. Recently, the ballpark moved to a single stream recycling solution and instituted a composting system. The team also planted Fenway Farms in spring 2015, which grows produce and herbs used in food products prepared at the ballpark. The partnership with Ørsted offers an opportunity for the team to boost its commitment to renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
"Since 2002, the club has tried to incorporate environmentally friendly practices into our operation and improvements to Fenway Park," said Red Sox Executive Vice President Troup Parkinson in a statement. "This partnership with Ørsted is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our commitment to sustainability and explore additional ways to bring green energy to the ballpark. We look forward to working with them during the 2018 season."
Throughout the 2018 season, Ørsted and the Boston Red Sox will collaborate on a number of sustainability-related projects and events.
