Advanced Disposal Collects More Than 4,500 Flags Through Flag Retirement Program

Advanced Disposal Services has collected more than 4,500 American flags via its annual flag retirement program, which is up from a total of 2,539 flags collected in 2015. The free program allows community members to dispose of old, worn, torn and faded American flags for proper retirement.

“Respectfully retiring the American flag is a great way to show our appreciation of the ‘stars and stripes’ and all it stands for,” said Advanced Disposal CEO Richard Burke in a press release. “We’re proud to be an American company and honored to offer this service to our customers and the communities we serve.  I want to thank everyone who participated, as well as the team members that made it possible.” 

The collected cotton flags are burned, while the collected nylon flags are used to create new nylon material, which can be used to make more American flags. The program ran from June 1, 2016, through September 11, 2016, and the company is slated to offer the program again next year.
