ClosedLoops, a sustainability-centric firm, has developed a “pneumatic” waste collection system idea for the High Line in New York. With this system, trash, recyclables and organic materials from the High Line would be removed via a tube that runs along the bottom of the iconic elevated park, dropped into containers at West 34th Street and 11th Avenue and transported out of the city to waste and treatment facilities via rail cars.
According to a ClosedLoops team member, the new system could eliminate truck traffic in the area, improve air quality, reduce the use of waste transfer stations, reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions and more.
