Duke Athletics Strives to Achieve Zero Waste

Duke Athletics achieved a 79 percent diversion rate with its Zero Waste initiative this season, which is up from its diversion rate of 45.2 percent in 2015.

Duke Athletics achieved a 79 percent diversion rate with its Zero Waste initiative this season, which is up from its diversion rate of 45.2 percent in 2015. Duke collected a total of 89, 020 lbs. of waste during the season and had one zero waste game.

Duke has a goal of having a complete zero waste season and hopes to achieve that in the coming years.

Statistics from the six-game home football schedule this past fall indicate that Duke Athletics achieved a 79 percent diversion rate in its Zero Waste initiative. 

Zero Waste is achieved when 90 percent of waste is diverted from landfill.
