In an effort to find solutions for reducing waste and increasing recycling, Hennepin County, Minn., is launching a Zero Waste Challenge this September. The county will follow 50 households for a year and keep track of the items they buy and the waste they create.
Those who sign up for the challenge will make a commitment to integrate low-waste changes into their lifestyle and track their waste and recycling weekly. All participating households will receive a $350 stipend.

If you’re steady recycler in Hennepin County who nevertheless is amazed at the amount of trash your household generates, then the county has a new initiative you’ll want to check out.
It’s called the Zero Waste Challenge, and it follows 50 households for a year, taking a look at the goods they buy and the waste they create. The goal is to find solutions to reduce waste and increase recycling. These solutions could be part of future county programs.
