Simply Cups Launches Pilot Disposable Coffee Cup Recycling Program in Australia
With the program, the company collected more than 12,000 coffee cups, which will all be recycled.

To combat the challenge of recycling disposable coffee cups, paper cup recycling company Simply Cups has created a single-use cup made from a combination of paper and plastic. With these cups, the paper fiber and polyethylene lining can be separated or the entire cup can be reprocessed into a polymer to create new products like trays and coasters.
Recently, Simply Cup launched a pilot program of its cups in Australia. With the program, the company collected more than 12,000 coffee cups, which will all be recycled.

Taking a cup of java to-go is the daily morning routine for millions of workers worldwide. But the problem with takeaway coffee, popularized by chains such as Starbucks, is those pesky disposable cups.
Most of them are made of paper with a thin layer of plastic, which succeeds quite well in keeping beverages warm and cups unsodden. But the result is that recycling these cups is almost impossible in most municipalities, as the paper-plastic combination makes them very difficult to reprocess into new materials. The amount of single-use cups that end in landfills depends on the source cited, but CNN suggested as many as 60 billion are thrown away each year.
