Elementa Group Inc. will build a waste-to-energy plant in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, to increase the energy supply in the province.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario-based Elementa said in a news release it reached an agreement with the Ontario Power Authority to add energy supply. The company said it has been developing for 10 years its non-incineration proprietary steam reformation chemistry technology that it now will bring to market.

Elementa will operate the new plant, which is designed to convert 50,000 metric tons of post-recycled municipal solid waste. The facility will provide 10 megawatts of capacity to Ontario's grid system, enough to supply approximately 10,000 homes.
