Waste in the United States is managed in three ways: recycling and composting (34.7%), waste-to-energy (12.8%) and landfilling (52.5%).

Dr. Marco Castaldi, professor, The City College of New York, recently authored the "Scientific Truth About the Waste-to-Energy," a peer-reviewed study that examines the key benefits of using waste-to-energy technology. The report analyzes waste management in the United States and shows how waste to energy plays a key role in reducing greenhouse emissions as well as the potential to reduce up to 90% of waste that goes to landfills. It calls upon dozens of independent scientific reviews to offer a comprehensive assessment of waste-to-energy's influence on environmental sustainability and public health.
