California County to Turn Food Waste into Energy with New Program

San Luis Obispo County, Calif., is launching a new program that will turn food waste into energy. With the new program, 50,000 county residents will receive a food scrap pail for their food scraps, which will be collected, composted and turned into electricity at the new Kompogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant at Waste Connections on Santa Fe Road.
Residential food scrap pails will be distributed starting on August 15.

A food scrap pail will soon be distributed to more than 50,000 San Luis Obispo county residents. Everything collected will then be composted and turned into electricity.
A building at Waste Connections on Santa Fe Road is the future site of the Kompogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant, a facility for organic waste.
