Congress Could Vote on Superfund Legislation Before Break

Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. House of Representatives could vote on a long-stalled measure aimed at overhauling rules governing cleanup of brownfields sites as early as Tuesday under suspicion of the rules, according to Energy and Commerce Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Paul E. Gillmor, R-Ohio.

Gillmor cut a tentative deal with full committee ranking Democrat John D. Dingell, Mich., to attach an amendment clarifying that federal wage laws under the Davis-Bacon Act apply to the cleanup work outlined in the bill.

The legislation combines the brownfields bill (S. 350) with a measure (H.R. 1831) that would exempt small businesses from liability under the Superfund law (PL 96-510).
