Rahway, N.J. -- On April 3, Waste Age incorrectly stated that Covanta Energy Corp. plans to raise disposal fees in 70 mid-Connecticut towns to compensate for its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Covanta, which operates the boiler and generator section of the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority's (CRRA), Hartford, waste-to-energy plant, has not asked for a fee increase and currently does not intend to do so. The CRRA, however, plans to raise trash disposal rates as a result of a $220 million loss last year relating to Houston-based Enron Corp. We regret the error.
