In “Rain, Rain, Go Away” [Jan. 2002, page 10], Waste Age incorrectly reported that for every 1 inch of rainfall on a 1-acre exposed landfill cell, approximately 152 gallons of leachate is produced. And if a cell were 5 acres, 760 gallons of leachate would be collected for each 1 inch of rainfall. Instead, 1 inch of rainfall produces 27,152 gallons, which totals 135,760 gallons for a 5-acre cell. Lastly, Waste Age incorrectly implied that the county's savings were used directly toward renovating the middle school. We regret the error.
