EPA Offers To Clean WTC Area Apartments

New York -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has agreed to pay to clean up downtown Manhattan apartments if residents are concerned that dust from the World Trade Center (WTC) collapse contains dust that potentially contains asbestos and other contaminants.

The city estimates that about 15,000 apartments were affected by dust from the twin towers, and Sen. Hillary Clinton has estimated that cleaning a typical apartment could cost up to $7,000.

According to an Associated Press report, there was no immediate indication of how many residents were taking advantage of the offer, and no limit has been set on funding, which is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
