EPA Report Applauds Waste-to-Energy Plants

Washington, D.C. — A report issued yesterday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) supports data confirming greater than 90 percent reductions in organic, metal and acid gas emissions from waste-to-energy facilities nationwide as a result of the industry’s compliance with Clean Air Act standards.

The emissions inventory and report are based on compliance test data of the country’s 66 large-unit waste-to-energy plants that upgraded their pollution control technology as required by the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) air standards enacted in 1995.
