Raleigh, N.C. -- North Carolina Natural Gas has become a partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Natural Gas STAR Program, which is designed to reduce methane emissions by encouraging the use of cost-effective technologies and practices.

Natural Gas STAR is a voluntary program between the EPA and the natural gas industry. Methane is considered a greenhouse gas contributing to global warming, and STAR partners have eliminated more than 120 billion cubic feet of methane emissions and have saved about $360 million since the program began in 1993.

The partnership includes more than 80 companies and is endorsed by 11 industry trade associations. For more information about the program, visit www.epa.gov/gasstar.
