Agawam, Mass., to Switch to Automated Trash Collection

Starting in July, the City of Agawam, Mass., will switch over to an automated trash collection system, which is expected to provide cleaner streets and neighborhoods and decrease overall disposal costs. Each eligible household will receive a 65-gallon trash cart and a 96-gallon recycling cart, which will be distributed starting in early June.
To help residents prepare for the new collection system, the city is launching a public awareness campaign that includes helpful information about the automated collection process, bulk collection, route schedules, proper cart locations and more.

Beginning this summer, the City of Agawam will implement a new trash and recycling program that uses wheeled carts instead of traditional trash barrels.
On July 1, Agawam will switch from manual trash collection to an automated trash collection system that's designed to provide cleaner streets and neighborhoods and decrease overall disposal costs, according to Mayor Richard A. Cohen.
