Boston's Composting Program Starts Next Week

The city of Boston has made it an objective of theirs to reduce waste by 80 percent by 2035. One of the ways they plan to achieve this is by tackling food waste, which accounts for one-third of the residential and commercial waste in the city. 

In order to eliminate some of this waste, the city has partnered with two area local compost firms to compost all of the food waste that would otherwise go to landfills. This is a service offered to all citizens of Boston by signing up, and will hopefully eliminate 67,000 tons of waste per year.
