The Henrico Environmental Action Resource Team (HEART) in Virginia is rolling out a food waste composting pilot in the coming weeks.
The program is designed to divert nutrient-rich compostables from landfills and turn that waste into materials for agriculture and landscaping. Meat and bone scraps, compostable plastics, fruits, vegetables, and more will be accepted at two spots in the area, seven days a week.
Yard waste will continue to be collected separately.
