Each year, 8 million tons of leaves end up in landfills. According to experts at the University of Delaware, when leaves are left in your yard, they provide nutrients for your grass. These same experts suggest running leaves over with your lawn mower to break them up rather than raking them up and disposing of them to landfills. Another idea to keep leaves out of landfills is to rake them up and allow them to compost into a useful soil additive or mulch.
