L.A. to Pay $5M to Family of Woman Killed by Garbage Truck

Los Angeles will spend $5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the husband and daughter of a woman who was fatally struck by a city garbage truck.

In December, Flora Kohanbashiri was hit by the truck at an intersection in Beverly Grove. At the time of the incident, police told reporters that the garbage truck driver had been attempting to turn right onto Almont Drive from West 3rd Street, but backed up when he wasn’t able to make the sharp turn.

The lawsuit alleged that Kohanbashiri was standing on the sidewalk and knocked to the ground as the truck backed up, “causing her to sustain severe injuries which resulted in her untimely death.”
