McDonald's Utilizes Dumpster Cameras to Track Waste

McDonald's is upping its waste reduction efforts with the use of AI technology in its dumpsters. The company leverages Compology's cameras to track when they are full and if contamination of recyclable materials is occurring.

Brent Bohn, owner of dozens of the fast-food giant's franchises throughout Las Vegas and Phoenix, has noted the use of dumpster cameras streamlines recycling efforts, tracking what workers are throwing out and providing accountability for not only employees but "for our suppliers and the haulers that we work with."

With China's ban on recyclables, many businesses are struggling with what to do with these materials, even pausing programs until solutions can be developed.
