UPDATE: American Trucking Association Honors World Wastes' Truck Editor

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - World Wastes truck editor Bob Deierlein has received the 1998 Study Group Leadership Award from The Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Associations (TMC), Alexandria, Va.

Deierlein has been a member of TMC for more than 30 years, during which time he has been a Study Group, Task Force or TMC officer. He also was the organization's 1981 Silver Spark plug award winne, and has served as a organizer or moderator of 19 technical and mini-technical sessions at TMC national meetings.

The Study Group award recognizes distinguished leadership by a Study Group chairman and honors outstanding leadership and contribution to TMC and the transport industry.

Acquisitions Allied Waste Industries Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., has completed its mergers with Michigan-based Standard Disposal Services Inc. and Pittsburgh-based Libert Waste Services, which has operations in Chicago, central Illinois and Indiana.

Sager Industries Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, parent company of Ecolo Odor Control Systems Worldwide, has acquired NuTech Environmental Corp., Denver.

Earth Tech Inc., Long Beach, Calif., has closed on its acquisition of Rust Environment & Infrastructure (REI). Earth Tech signed a definitive agreement to acquire REI on June 16, 1998.

Agreement The Council of Great Lakes Governors representing Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, has chosen Remedial Technologies Network, Reston, Va., to expedite area-waste site clean-up in the Great Lakes states.

Awards The city of Louisville, Ky.'s paper recycling program has received Washington, D.C.-based American Forest and Paper Association's Best Paper Recycling Award in the "State/Local" category. Lee County, Fla., won in the "Schools" category. Roberta/ Crawford County, near Macon, Ga., won in the "Any Size" category.

The city of Lawrence (Kan.) Waste Reduction and Recycling Division has received a 1998 Pollution Prevention Award for Excellence from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Standard and Poor's bond ratings agency has rated Chesapeake, Va.-based Southeastern Public Service Authority's bonds at "A" status.
