Waste Industries Unveils CNG Fleet in North Carolina County
Waste Industries is unveiling a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fleet later this week at its Wilmington, N.C. facility, according to a press release from the company.
Waste Industries has CNG operations in Wake, Durham, Wilson, Pitt, Greene and Brunswick Counties that includes over 190 trucks. There are 22 CNG vehicles in this expansion – 21 collection vehicles and one service truck.
The company said implementation of the fleet will reduce Waste Industries' carbon footprint by lowering carbon monoxide emissions by 77 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately 87 percent, particulate matter emissions by 95 percent, and cut greenhouse gases by 20 percent.

The May 12th unveiling marks the launch of the largest private CNG operation in New Hanover County and adds 21 new collection vehicles. Waste Industries currently has CNG operations in Wake, Durham, Wilson, Pitt, Greene, Brunswick Counties, totaling over 190 trucks.
The project, which cost $7 million, includes a state-of-the-art filling system with dual compressors, shop upgrades, and vehicles.
The Wilmington Environmental Campus was completed in 2013 and, with the CNG conversion, represents over a $15 Million investment in the County.
