Fremont, Mich., Food Waste-to-Energy Plant Closes

A food waste-to-energy plant touted as the first of its kind in the nation has closed a little more than two years after it opened.
City officials in Fremont say they hope the closure is only temporary.
The $22 million Fremont Community Digester, built with help from a $12.8 million USDA loan guarantee, was such a big deal that U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, helped with the groundbreaking in 2010. She was also there when it opened in late 2012.
