Redding, Conn., Explores Starting Recycling Food Scrap Program

The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, in collaboration with the Town of Redding, will be kicking-off the first-of-its-kind organics (food scraps) collection programs in Connecticut at the recycling center in the spring.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in everyday trash. Food waste shouldn’t be burned or landfilled sine it's wet and heavy, which doesn't make burning it efficient creates methane in landfills.
The EPA has identified landfills as the single-largest source of methane. It is a potent greenhouse gas that is 23 times more efficient at trapping heat than carbon dioxide.
